Lithium Battery Safety
Lithium systems can be safe when they are properly designed, installed, protected, and inspected. The goal is not fear—it is a documented system, deliberate safeguards, and a clear stop point before a small uncertainty becomes a serious fault.
Before you energize
- Keep the battery chemistry and exact model documentation with the BMS, charger, inverter, regulator, and monitoring plan.
- Confirm BMS compatibility, correctly sized fusing and cable protection, charging-source settings, alternator protection, and temperature management.
- Secure the battery against movement, keep it dry and protected from heat, preserve ventilation, and make isolation/shutoff access obvious.
- Inspect for moisture, chafe, heat marks, corrosion, or damage. Stop for smoke, swelling, venting, repeated protection trips, or anything you cannot explain.
